Paperwork for new development Act for Kg Baru submitted to AGC

KUALA LUMPUR: The paperwork for a new development Act for Kampung Baru has been submitted by the Federal Territories Ministry to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC), says Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

The Federal Territories Minister said the act is to replace the Malay Agricultural Settlement Act that previously governed development and management in the Malay enclave.

He said the ministry was waiting for a response from the AGC before bringing the matter to the Cabinet to be presented in Parliament.

“This new Act contains provisions to overcome the legal obstacles that had impeded the development and asset competitiveness in Kampung Baru

“In the new Act, the development of Kampung Baru will also be incorporated into the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020-2040 that will be gazetted early next year.

“The plan will not leave Kampung Baru behind as it will ensure that the area is developed alongside the surrounding areas,” he said on Saturday (Nov 14).

Annuar had on Nov 5 announced that a draft for a new development Act was being finalised to turn Kampung Baru into a special development area.

He had said under the Act, smaller parcels of lands measuring between 2ha and 5ha would be developed independently of each other.

He said 44 parcels of land had been identified to be developed “as soon as possible”, involving 8ha of land.

“I am currently in talks with the Finance Ministry. There is already a rough framework that will enable developments to be initiated by the government and several governmental agencies,” he said.

He added that engagement sessions would be held with landowners and investors.
